Christians and appearance?

I've heard many Christians say "if God wanted my ears pierced I would have been born that way" or "if God wanted me to have a tattoo, I would have been born that way." Well you were born naked, so obviously God wants you that way, why not walk around naked. And why fix your hair because if God wanted you to have short or styled hair, you would have been born that way...am I right?

Christians and appearance?

Exactly. We were born naked, so why not walk around naked? We were also born without showering or shaving-- so ladies, try not showering or shaving the rest of your lives, because you were born that way. And no high heels-- they modify height (earrings are just as temporary).

The one that gets me is when they speak out against my mods, but then go get liposuction, or boob jobs, or a nose job, or go to a tanning booth. Because it makes them look what they think is "better" and my mods make me look like a heathen, it must be okay.

"Your body is a temple, but how long can you live in the same house before you redecorate?"

well, i see what you're saying, but you have to admit there is a difference between putting on an article of clothing, or cutting your hair (which grows back), and mutilating your flesh, or permanently altering the design of your DNA with surgery, etc.

I think God wants us to love ourselves the way He loves us, just as we are.

Christians and appearance?

Right about everything but the part about god.

Christians and appearance?

It is called double standard.

What suits the christians is god's reason. What don't is satan's reason. Christians are so sure of themselves!!! lol.

I don't know about God, but my mother hates my hair. It is long and curly, and she thinks I, at the age of 46, should look like a "man". Gee, um-there, mom. NO you cannot cut my hair. And what is a "man" supposed to look like? I just cannot, and will not, follow the herd-sorry.

Im just trying to imagine a newborn with short styled hair.

RIF: My husband is 44 with a beautiful ponytail; I was the encourager for him to grow it out and I am the Christian in our relationship. Hopefully your mom will get over it!

Christians and appearance?

How do they know that God wants them to have a tattoo or piercings?

Christians and appearance?

Yes I agree, people say the strangest things sometimes, but the sayings aren't limited to Christians.

Christians and appearance?

there's a difference between the first and the last part of your question. like tattooing and doing your hair are two things non relevant to each other.

Also, If God wanted people to smoke He would have made them with a built-in chimney. (heard someone say that, reckon it has some truth to it)

Christians and appearance?

I agree, I sort of see it the same as the argument of religion and medicine. If god wanted my arm broken, why set it? Or if god wanted me dead, why treat a cold. If god gave me a cold, he must want it to go through my system and get over it or die of pneumonia. I think I'll opt for free will, thanks!

The only restriction on what one wears that I can remember in the Bible is one of modesty. I think the Lord wants us to be the best we can be. We should adorn ourselves with good taste and not make it the focal point in our lives. Our God is a God who does not judge by the outward appearance. However, there is nothing wrong with trying to look your best. We should all concentrate on what makes us special to the Lord....our hearts!

You can love the lord and decorate your body it is your choice but you may want to consider that a future love interest may be put off by it, especially if it is a tattoo of the name of a former lover. In Biblical times royalty would sometimes sport nose rings and such.
