How can I get the hairdresser to cut my hair the way that I ask?

I have been to many, MANY different hairdstylists in the city where I live and I (almost) never get what I want.

Last week I asked that my bangs reach my eyebrows when completely dry and that I wanted my hair to frame my face (Examples I can think of are Goldie Hawn's style or JLo's hair in Monster In Law) but my bangs were cut too short and the hair around my face was too long and UNEVEN. Am I asking for the impossible? I've been to so many different places both high end and less expensive and it seems like no one is listening when I tell them what I want!

Are there things that I can look for when a stylist is cutting so that I can speak up while I'm still in the chair and they can fix it BEFORE I get up to pay?

For example: when they separate my hair -front section from back section- where should the separation be? in front of my ear? behind my ear? directly over my ear?

And to get the frame I want would that entail tiny layers or would it be razor cut?

Suggestions please!

Ask them if they can do it, as you've been to many who blew it.

Hi there...the best way I try to avoid such problems like yours is to try and take the most similar photo I can find of the hairstyle I want. Try to remember though that celeb hair is all blowdried etc so you wont have the exact same affect as them.

I would look for a picture of what you want, and go to an experienced stylist.. when they have a picture, stylists are much better at giving the cut you want. if the model has a different face shape than you, ak them to modify it to work with your face... you can either flip through magazines or google

Nnext time you go to a hairdresser, ask them how long she has been cutting hair. If she has had many years of experiance, she may be the one for you. Another suggestion might be to get the names of all the stylists, comeback to Yahoo answers and ask for the respone of people in your area and if they had a good experiance with that particular place.

I completly understand your frustration, though. I once went to this hair stylist, and I had asked for a very spacific cut. I came out with an old lady do, and I was very displeased!

Bring picutres or even draw some quick sketches. Ask them to cut it dry. And for tiny layers, razor cuts are good, but are easy to screw up on. Watch out! :P

what i do is take in pix of ppl or styles that i like, and tell them that i want this and that from wichever pix, and then tell them how i wanna wear my hair most of the time so they can change it a little to fit that.

The best way to have your hair like Goldie Hawn's or J.Lo's is that find a picture of them from the internet or a magazine, print it or cut it out,then bring it to the hair salon your going to. Show it to them even before you sit on the chair so that you have their full attention on how you want your hair to be cut.

Keep the length. Get a few more choppier layers, but not too much. Trim your bangs just a little bit. Dye your hair a little darker. Like light brown.

I have long hair that comes to about the small of my back (about halfway down my back) It is naturally wavy and is super frizzy. I like to have my hair side parted alot. I think if you cut your hair really short you'd really regret it. Why not just have it cut to touch your shoulders, that way you can put it up in a bun when it's hot and use styling brushes and curling irons for softer curls. Some of your problem might be the thickness or rather thinness of your hair and the waves. See thin hair tends to break more making dry split ends, you want to find a product, shampoo and conditioner and maybe a hair gloss to coat with. The shampoo and conditioner should be made to make your hair stronger and fuller. Ponytails are one of the worst culprits for making frizz. The tight band around your hair when you move and your hair moves tends to break off weak hairs, thus making the split ends. Why not tie your hair up with a ribbon or scrunchie or really soft ponytail holder, a cloth type one that way it won't split hairs. I would say get your hair cut to maybe shoulder level or just below to get dry ends off and rejuvenate growth, then you could start using the volume building strengthening shampoo and conditioner, and use the hair gloss, that makes your hair coated so that it's less likely to break. You can do a lot with shoulder length, braids but use cloth holders on the ends, ponytails again soft holders, using a curling brush or hot metal brush to make soft curls out of the waves.

Frizziness has nothing to do with the way you cut your hair. It is the natural-ness of your specific hair type that makes it that way. Try a really good conditioner and try braiding your hair at night if you don't already. keep it really moisterized and like I said very well conditioned.

I think maybe fructis is a good brand of hair products.

Also a straigtening iron is key. try sally's beauty supply.

Now, I much prefer short hair-- not too short though... A bit of length I can play with and bleach the tips etc... :) Hehehhee.

Honestly though, some of these come-back 80s meets now hair styles are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO overrated!! That David Beckham thing was okay for a while, but now it's SOMETHING ELSE!! Don't let some pushy hair dresser talk you into it!!!

It depends on the shape of your face. Look in the mirror. If the first thing you notice every morning is how your hair looks, it probably overwhelms your face and needs a good cut. Long hair can be very attractive, depends on the man. There is no generic answer. One good example is Lorenzo Lamas. He looked fabulous either way, it really depends because it changes the image you project.
